Achieving social equity in the senior care industry

We stand with you to listen, learn, and move past words to take meaningful action.

Caregivers Against Racism was created to give caregivers and senior care professionals the opportunity to stand in solidarity with the communities of people who are continually on the receiving end of social and racial injustice. We want to take this moment to listen and learn from our caregivers on how we can improve our industry and make sure everyone's voice is heard, while also giving back to those who will lead us forward in these consequential times.

Our mission is to create a coalition of caregivers and senior care providers who will work to make meaningful change towards racial equity in the home care industry.

Through donations, initiatives and public feedback, we hope to rise up to the occasion and meet this moment head on.

The Initiatives

MAY 2021
HomeCare.com & ShiftMed
In May of this year, the Nurses Against Racism coalition partnered with
ShiftMed, LLC and HomeCare.com and announced the HomeCare.com Nursing Scholarship. The scholarship provides equitable opportunities for prospective Black nurses to excel in their studies. All prospective nursing majors, CNAs, LPNs, or RNs were eligible to apply for this scholarship.
We are excited to announce the four winners of the scholarship;
  • Destiny Ashley – New York, New York
  • Kamoy Beagle – New York, New York
  • Salematou Diallo – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Rayin Jordan – Fremont, Ohio
Learn more about the scholarship and the awardees in ShiftMed's blog post.

MAY 2021
HomeCare.com
We are excited to announce the HomeCare.com Nursing Scholarship! Nurses dedicate their lives to public service and providing for local communities through their practice, but unfortunately, many prospective nurses don’t have the opportunity to graduate with a degree debt-free, particularly nurses of color. Today, 51% of Black students use student loans to fund their education. Black nurses currently represent 10% of the nurses in the US and with this scholarship we hope to encourage more to apply. The US is expecting a nursing shortage to continue while aging Baby Boomers retire in record numbers during the next 10 years.

The HomeCare.com Nursing Scholarship is designed to provide equitable opportunities for prospective Black nurses to excel in their studies. All prospective nursing majors, CNAs, LPNs, or RNs are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The application deadline is July 1, 2021.

JULY 2020
HomeCare.com
Starting July 1, 2020, ShiftMed will donate $1 for every shift worked during the month of July to organizations that focus on ending racial injustice. The causes will be selected by the nurses on our team and updated on this site.

JUNE 2020
The Geller Group
As a firm, we are taking affirmative steps to expand our prior work to help combat racism and inequality.
  • In June of 2020, the firm ran a Donation Matching Program focused on donating thousands of dollars to organizations that support black lives such as the Loveland Foundation, Campaign Zero, Movement for Black Lives, and NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, to name a few.
  • Utilized our social media network to highlight and drive business to local, black-owned companies.
  • Recognized Juneteenth as a paid firm holiday for the first time this year.
  • Supported the effort of GLG Owner/CEO Rebecca Geller to raise money for Fair Fight Action whose goal is to eliminate voter suppression, which disproportionately impacts Black voters.
